Neymar decided to not have surgery on his injured knee in Saudi Arabia under the supervision of the club. He instead requested the club to permit him to have his surgery in Brazil under the national team doctor. This is also because the national team doctor is more aware of the injury. Hours after the surgery, Brazil’s team doctor provided the latest update.
Rodrigo Lasmar speaking to the media outside the hospital said, “We were very pleased with the results, it was a success. He should stay in the hospital for 24 or 48 hours, depending on his clinical evolution. He (Neymar) had a complex injury to his left knee on October 17th. This morning, he underwent surgical treatment, where the anterior cruciate ligament was reconstructed, the meniscal constructions of both menisci were repaired, and the surgery was a success, we are very satisfied”.
Al Hilal medical director Juan David Peña Duque also at the hospital said, “Now he moves on to the next stage, which is physiotherapy rehabilitation. We will gradually release new information, as we have new developments”, as compiled by Esportes. Neymar will now focus on his road to recovery with the help of the national team and club doctor’s advice. However, both the club and the national team hope that he recovers on or before schedule.

This will be the most important recovery for Neymar to reignite his career on club and national level. The Brazilian has a contract till 2025. Hence, he will have the next full season to showcase his soccer prowess considering he will not play much between now and the end of this season. Playing domestic soccer would be mandatory to keep himself in the loop for the national team selection ahead of the Copa America tournament next year.
Neymar’s main aim is to play in the Copa America next year in the US. Head Coach, Fernando Diniz also considers him very important despite some of the Brazilian’s subpar performances before his injury. As of now, the soccer icon has no intention to retire from the national team. Ultimately, he would want to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
