Notably, Barcelona and Real Madrid have made marquee signings worth hundreds of millions of euros. They have joined the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in splashing the cash. While these clubs have also faced scrutiny for their spending, Pique argues that the FFP rules in La Liga are more stringent compared to other leagues.

“There is no regulation with FFP. Each league is regulated differently. La Liga is very strict, and with other leagues, it’s another system,” Gerard Pique recently stated. He emphasized his concerns by adding, “We are going to end up with Barça & Real Madrid not being able to compete in Europe in 5 years.”

Although the 36-year-old undoubtedly hopes for his beloved Blaugrana to encounter this scenario, Los Blancos’ absence from European competitions would not trouble the Spanish soccer player. In an interview, he expressed, “It’s clear that they(Real Madrid) weren’t better than any of their opponents in the last UCL they won.
