Cristiano Ronaldo is undeniably among the most feared strikers the sport has ever seen. Players have come and gone; multiple generations have tottered and failed, but there has never been a poacher like Cr7. Thanks to 800+ career goals over the years, the 5x Ballon d’Or winner is one the most irksome opponents for the majority of defenders.
In a recent chat between Rio Ferdinand and Gerard Pique, the former Barcelona man named two players as the toughest strikers he has faced in his career. As expected, the former Real Madrid talisman was one among them.

A couple of days ago, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand linked up with Gerard Pique for a feature video on the former’s YouTube channel. During the 15-minute run time, the duo spoke about a variety of things including the toughest attacker Pique has faced. To no one’s surprise, the defender named Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the toughest he has faced.
The Spaniard first stressed how difficult it is to stop Cr7. Since the duo faced off in La Liga for a long time, he termed that it was almost ‘impossible’ to stop his goalscoring exploits. “Because when he came to Madrid, we had to play a lot of games against him,” recalled Pique. “And when you play, I don’t know, 30-40 games against Cristiano, it is impossible to keep him away from scoring goals. Because he will score goals no matter what. You have to try to keep him and try to make sure that he participates as little as possible,” said the Spaniard revisiting his struggles against Cr7.
Interestingly, the other player who Pique found difficult to tackle was Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba.
Didier Drogba’s strength and pace gave Pique a lot of troubles
The other name in Pique’s list was Chelsea’s legendary striker Didier Drogba. The Ivory Coast icon was an all-round striker with a bite and deadly finishing abilities. The former Bareclona defender recalled these abilities of Drogba and shared how tough it was to deal with him in European competitions.

“I remember Drogba when we played against Chelsea a few times in the Champions League. I remember the role of Andres Iniesta here at Stamford Bridge. At that time, he was very complete, very, very complete, because he was very strong,” recalled Pique. The Kosmos Holding owner also shared that his aerial prowess made him even more lethal. “He was good in the air, hence he scored a lot of goals.”
