In recent seasons, Manchester City under Pep Guardiola has broken several records. One of them was becoming the first Premier League side to reach the 100-point mark in the 2017/18 season. However, former Chelsea star John Obi-Mikel feels the Sky Blues will have tremendous problems breaking one particular record. The Arsenal invincible record was set during the 2003-04 season when they went unbeaten in every league game. Speaking on the Obi-One podcast, he said, “To keep a clean sheet, win a game in the Premier League is tough enough to be able to go 49 games without losing. When I say never ever, it will be hard to see a team even as good as Manchester City. It will be hard to see in this day and age to see them break the record, impossible.”
Notably, it has also made it difficult for Pep Guardiola to play his best players in every single game. Another point is how the Premier League is becoming even more challenging day by day. Hence, the Spanish manager has to keep on proving himself every day.
It will be interesting to witness whether the Sky Blues can overcome the odds to become the next Invincibles. However, as far as Guardiola is concerned, he has made his views clear on the unbeaten season.
