Wrexham co-chairman Rob McElhenney is enthusiastic about the upcoming season. And why not? The Reds had a successful preseason in the US, despite a massive loss in their first game against Chelsea. But above all, the support the club received in the US was commendable. After a significant title-winning season, hopes are high for the Welsh club.

Its co-owner McElhenney is excited and optimistic about the outcome for the club next season. While speaking to Welsh broadcaster S4C, he said“I cannot believe its beginning again, but I am so excited. It’s the first time that Wrexham will be in the EFL in 15 years. I think the whole town is going to come out for that as well. And hoping for a good outcome.”

MK Dons will visit Wrexham on August 5. To be in contention for another promotion, the Reds need to finish in the top seven. League Two has four promotion spots. The top three automatically qualify for League One next season. Playoffs decide the remaining spot between the next four teams.

Wrexham will be without Paul Mullin

The excitement may be high, but there’s a concern, too. Wrexham superstar Paul Mullin won’t be available for the start of the season. After puncturing his lungs during a clash with the Manchester United goalie in the preseason game, the Liverpool-born striker might miss the action for a few weeks.

Mullin has run the show for the Red Dragons over the last two seasons. He finished top on the goalscoring chart for the club’s previous two seasons. Moreover, the last time he played in League Two, Mullin won the Golden Boot and helped Cambridge United to gain promotion to League One. The fans will hope for Ollie Palmer, Elliot Lee, and Sam Dalby to step up in Mullin’s absence.
