Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s rivalry is for the ages. Even though it is considered an on-the-pitch battle, it is more complex than it seems. However, an author surprised Ronaldo after penning insensitive lines in Lionel Messi’s biography caught him off guard. Notably, Ronaldo sued the author for revealing some sensitive information about him.

Ronaldo usually likes to clear up any misunderstanding via the media. The former Manchester United icon has a massive fan image, and any private information out in the public frustrates him. A famous award-winning author shares his experience of Ronaldo’s wrath.

After the release of Messi’s biography by award-winning journalist and author Guillem Balague, Ronaldo pursued the journalist to sue him. The former Real Madrid player was mentioned in Messi’s book as a rival who calls him ‘mothe*****er.’ Balague revealed this in his last interview with CBS Sports. Balague said, “Cristiano went on his Facebook and says this is a lie, and I’m going to take this guy to court.”

Balague claimed in his book that CR7 addresses Messi with the M word, as he is considered the leading rival for his team. The author also professed that he wrote it in the context of how Ronaldo and his team were warriors who competed at the highest level. However, Balague also confessed that Messi’s book should not have had Ronaldo in it.

The rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo started in the late 2000s. But it almost reached its peak during the early and mid-2010s. The two players claimed all the Ballon d’Or for themselves and dominated the game for a decade. News such as that took the then-award holder Ronaldo to spitfire via social media.

Ronaldo revealed his respect for Lionel Messi

The incident immediately called for Cristiano Ronaldo’s action, which he responded rapidly. The 2016 European Champion stated, “This is absolutely false, and I have assured my lawyer takes action to sue those responsible. I have the utmost respect for all my professional colleagues, and Messi is obviously no exception.”

The two stars have appeared to have called off their hostility. Ronaldo spoke a couple of months ago that the rivalry was over, and his fans did not have to despise him. Messi, on the other hand, declared that both of them pushed each other to perform better. However, it looks like the duo will have another shot at their competition in February 2024, as Al Nassr is expected to take on Inter Miami in a friendly.
