The fans know Megan Rapinoe for her outspoken nature. NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman experienced it recently as the USWNT star slammed the NWSL to release the NWSL schedule late. NWSL was under pressure from the fans and the players to release the schedule early but wasn’t able to do so. The reason behind the need for the early schedule is the FIFA Women’s World Cup happening later this year.
Megan Rapinoe takes a dig at Jessica Berman
Berman promised during the NWSL Draft that they will release this year’s schedule early. However, they are releasing the schedule 45 days ahead of the new season, commencing on 25 March. Last year they released the schedule 44 days ahead of the new season. It means this year NWSL is releasing it a day earlier compared to last year.
It has drawn furious reactions from fans as it is barely a day before compared to last year, and Rapinoe has taken a dig at Berman over her latest social media post. Berman tweeted, “Grateful that this day is finally upon us…there are not enough words permitted on Twitter to explain “the why” but it doesn’t much matter — fact is, it took too long. Thank you for your passion and for holding us accountable. We will do better. And, our social team = the best!”

Rapinoe soon responded by trolling the NWSL commissioner. USWNT star tweeted, “I’ll tell MY social team that YOUR social team said thank you,” in response. It was a harsh response, and it will be interesting to see how Berman responds to the criticism over the delayed schedule.
NWSL season will commence on 25 March, and they have decided to change the format of the Challenge Cup for this season. The new arrangement includes concurrent Cup games with the regular season.
NWSL makes changes to the NWSL Challenge Cup
The 2023 season will see the Challenge Cup in its fourth edition. Earlier three editions were played as preseason tournaments barring the 2020 season, where the Cup replaced NWSL due to the COVID pandemic.
However, this season, the 12 franchises will be divided into three groups for the Cup. The clubs will play two round-robin games with each other for six weeks. It will run from April to September concurrently with the NWSL.
