Manchester City has managed to keep on to German shot-stopper Stefan Ortega after the goalkeeper penned a contract extension with the club. After months of speculation over his future, Ortega has decided to stay with the Sky Blues. Reports claimed the goalkeeper was not happy playing deputy to Ederson and wanted assurance over his game side for the upcoming season.

With reports claiming Ederson is set to leave Manchester City in the coming months, Stefan Ortega signing a new deal with Manchester City makes a lot of sense. Ortega spoke of his decision to renew with the Sky Blues in an interview with the club media. The German stated, “If you work under Pep [Guardiola], he opens your view of football in a completely new way, it’s incredible. When I watch it now I watch it so differently to before. He’s incredible. He’s a top guy and it’s just a privilege to be a part of his team.”

With Ortega remaining with the Sky Blues, Ederson’s time at the clubs seems to be running out. Multiple Middle Eastern clubs are said to be interested in the player, with Al Ittihad also putting in an official bid of $35 million. However, Manchester City are not impressed with the offer and will not accept anything below $70 million for their first-choice keeper.

Pep Guardiola was all over Stefan Ortega after Manchester City’s win over Tottenham

Stefan Ortega played a huge role in Manchester City’s fourth consecutive Premier League title triumph. The goalkeeper in Ederson’s absence saved a shot in the dying minutes during the clash against Tottenham that helped Pep Guardiola’s side keep their point advantage over Arsenal. While Ortega’s mistake against Manchester United did cost his team the FA Cup title, manager Pep Guardiola was more than impressed with the keeper’s performance throughout the season.

Guardiola, following the game against Tottenham, praised Ortega, stating, “Stefan makes an incredible save. It was amazing but he has this talent. In the one-against-one, he is one of the best keepers I have ever seen in my life. Stand up, don’t go down and he is so, so, good. Playing FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and even this season Ederson had four times setbacks for injuries and always he was so reliable. He is an incredible keeper so the club and our trainer made an incredible decision to bring him here.”

With the keeper signing a new contract, we could see him take over the role as the main goalkeeper while Manchester City look for a backup following Ederson’s departure. Do you think Stefan Oretga is ready to man the posts for Manchester City’s first team? Let us know in the comments below.
