“I Was Practically Alone and Trapped” – Facing Potential 8-Year Jail Term, Shakira’s Past Life Next to Gerard Pique Claimed to Be ‘Hell’

Recently, Shakira has been in the news for her surprise appearances at quite a few sporting events. Most recently, she went to watch the Miami Heat’s fourth playoff game. Days prior to that, she also witnessed the Miami Grand Prix, and she even posted a video of herself surfing at Miami Beach. The singer may now also return to Barcelona soon for her trial, for which she is currently under threat of facing an eight-year jail term.

While she is seemingly enjoying her new life with her children, a recent report regarding her past life will shock you. The report suggests that Shakira was living a very different life alongside Gerard Pique. Unlike today, she wasn’t able to dedicate herself to her passions in Spain!

How was Shakira’s past life?

Popular Spanish journalists Laura Fa and Lorena Vazquez have revealed a few insights on the singer yet again. This time, they had news surrounding Shakira’s past life. Despite enjoying life like a free bird in Miami, she couldn’t always do that in Spain. During the conversation on the Mamarazzis podcast, the journalist duo described her life as “hell” in Barcelona.

They described her situation by saying that she was “bored like an oyster”. They continued, “Her life must be hell, and the only thing holding her back was her love for her partner. It is true that she went to watch basketball and practiced surfing, but what we have seen in Miami is that she is dedicating herself to it”.

“Now I understand the need to go there because here in Barcelona I was practically alone and trapped. In the end, you are having a hard time, and what better than to go with your people.”

However, Shakira’s life is currently not full of joy. Apart from pursuing her passion, she is also battling against a $15.9 million tax fraud allegation.

Could Shakira face a major jail sentence?

Soon after breaking up with Gerard Pique, the Spanish authorities slapped the singer with a major lawsuit. They surprisingly accused her of not paying mandatory taxes for two years, i.e., from 2012–14. However, the Colombian icon has safely claimed that she wasn’t in the country during that time. Due to her busy schedule, the court has given her the freedom to choose her own trial date.

The singer will, however, need to present herself in court as per Spanish law, mainly due to the high fraud amount. Once described as the ‘darkest’ moment of her life, it could get a lot worse if she loses the case. While she’s confident about winning, Shakira could face up to eight years in prison if the court finds her guilty of not paying taxes.
