The Welsh club made three signings recently to keep the title charge going. They wanted to cover their squad for the final stretch of the season. The signing that caught the eye of all the fans was goalkeeper Ben Foster. Moreover, he started the first game after returning to the club. He was taking the field for a competitive game after almost ten months and felt nervous before the game.
Ben Foster was nervous ahead of his second debut
Foster rejoined the third-oldest soccer club in the world after over 17 years. He last had a stint with the Welsh club in 2005 when the club was playing in League One. Despite his immense experience, the former England international felt nervous ahead of the game. He revealed it on his podcast, The Fozcast, recently.
Foster said, “I will not lie to you. I was nervous for the game. Genuinely nervous. I will always play cool and try and play it down, and you know not merely try and make too much of a deal of it. But I was nervous because I think, when you’ve had that long away from the game. Ten months of genuinely thinking, ‘Oh, I’m done’. I’ve never got to worry about another matchday. Never got to worry about training. And then all of a sudden you’re asked to go and perform.”
He made his second debut in front of the club owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. They were at Racecourse Stadium to celebrate the title win of the Wrexham women’s team. Foster had an impressive debut, though. He kept a clean sheet for the club, who hit 100 goal mark in a 3-0 win.
