Hayes, who’s still with Chelsea for the remaining half of the season, addressed the upcoming game against Liverpool. During her press conference, Hayes narrated an emotional story sharing her thoughts on rival head coach Matthew Beard.

Hayes stated, “When the announcement came out, I got a really emotional message from him. I was crying. He is someone who’s proven himself. I think the move to America really helped him in many ways. Him obviously going there and picking some of those things. Looking at his team, the physicality of his team. They have always been competitive, but I think they are more consistent now. He seems confident in himself and I know he’s continuing to go on and try.”

This is Hayes’ last season with the Blues. The six-time Women’s Super League winner has been in charge of the club since 2012 and is ready to take on a new challenge. Hayes will take over the USWNT at the end of the current season, with the Blues coach signing a big $1.6 million deal.

Talking about her contract, Hayes stated, “I’m not going to comment on what’s written in the press about pay cuz, I’m just not. I’ve certainly been awarded a contract that I think I’m worth. I worked in this job for six grand a year at one point, then 12 grand. Money’s never been my motivator in life.”
