Wrexham AFC is getting applause from the soccer fraternity, especially for their ownership. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have brought an unknown club from the fifth tier to fame. But what has impressed many is their involvement with club players and, above all, the community of Wrexham.

Thanks to the ownership, the club is attracting many new sponsorship deals helping them economically. However, another awaited news struck the club with Ben Foster accepting a new contract to stay for one more year. But what made the former England international to extend his stay at the club?

Foster is one of the prominent names in English soccer. The former Manchester United goalie, who played for Wrexham in 2005, announced his retirement last year in September. However, things turned upright. The Red Dragons’ first-choice goalkeeper got injured, with McElhenney and Reynolds turning their attention to Foster.

The duo convinced Foster to come out of retirement and join the club on a short-term deal in March. And he made a crucial penalty save in stoppage time against Notts County. Wrexham won the Vanarama National League, and Foster became a hero. His two-month stint with the club convinced owners to offer a new deal to the goalie. Foster received the offer. He contemplated it and gave his nod.

Ben Foster recently revealed the reasons for accepting the deal while speaking to talkSPORT ahead of the Soccer Aid 2023 game. Foster said, “The main reason why I wanted to stay at Wrexham for one year was just everything I’ve seen in the last couple of months being at the club has just opened my eyes to a whole new world of how a football club could be run and should be run.”

“They’re doing it the proper way, and I just want to be a part of that. All the lads absolutely buy into a buzz of it. Good lads all over the place. The owners do it properly, and I want to be a part of it from day one as well,” Foster added while praising Reynolds and McElhenney. The Hollywood duo has clearly left a long-lasting impression on the former Manchester United goalie.
