David Beckham opens up on comforting Manchester United legend

Rooney made his debut under immense pressure. However, in a recent interview, Beckham revealed how he helped his fellow teammate get settled at the national camp. “When Wayne first came into the England setup, I was 27, 28. So I was a senior player and obviously being captain of England, you look out for the players and especially the young players that come into the team,” he said while speaking to Paramount Plus UK.

“And if you can, ever offer them advice, then that’s what you do. I was aware of the spotlight that he was walking into, so I did speak to him about the attention that he’s gonna get and how he can handle it. Because I know exactly what he would come up against,” he said.

The former skipper revealed what it was like for him to go through such pressure and also said he would have also liked the same. “I know what it was like when I first came in. I needed that arm around me and some kind of support. But..whether you listen or not, that’s a whole different thing,” Beckham added.
