Wrexham AFC started their hyped USA pre-season tour with a bummer. The Red Dragons were handed a heavy defeat with a scoreline of 5-0 as Chelsea steamrolled them. Ryan Reynolds’s side however came back on track with an impressive 3-0 win over LA Galaxy II.

The Welsh team next take on Premier League giants Manchester United. In the buildup to the match, Red Devils boss Erik Ten Hag revealed all he knows about Wrexham, the threats they pose, and his team to counter them.

In his pre-match presser, Manchester United’s Dutch coach was quipped if he had watched the much acclaimed “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary. In reply, Ten Hag replied negatively, but he said he knows them thanks to last season’s pre-season friendly.

“I didn’t watch the Wrexham documentary but I know them. We played them last year,” said Ten Hag. The former Ajax gaffer then revealed that he is planning to combine his U21 players with experienced players to tackle the Red Dragons who are high on spirit after achieving promotion. “

“I know they got promoted. I know their players and we will face them. We have brought the u21s in but we will strengthen the u21s with the players we have brought on tour,” revealed the gaffer.

The gaffer after announcing the inclusion of U21 players in the lineup stressed how big of a learning curve it will be for them. “For the academy players, it’s a great experience, a huge game, against really good opposition,” Ten Hag said.

He emphasized how the youngsters will learn to deal with pressure thanks to a sold-out stadium. “It’s very good for their education, they have to deal with the pressure, the stadium is sold out, so the players are looking forward to it, so I’m really happy we can do that. It’s a great opportunity,” concluded the Dutchman.
