Al Alami aimed to bolster their squad on every forefront, with Cristiano Ronaldo already in their roster and another meaningful addition in Sadio Mane. Meanwhile, Al Nassr’s loaned-out defender expressed a heartfelt message for his former teammate’s achievement with the squad.

The AFC Champions League permits a club to have six foreign players and one among them must be of Asian origin. This forced Al Nassr to loan out their Ivory Coast star. However, the $8.48 million rated defender didn’t refrain from appreciating the recent success in his former teammate’s career.

After Al Nassr decided to offload some players, Ghislain Konan, the Ivory Coast star, joined Al Fayha in a loan spell this season. Alex Telles is also no longer guaranteed his position at Al Nassr. Al Alami forced out the left back to comply with the foreign player quota within six, according to the AFC CL’s rules. With both stars iced out, Konan expressed his affection for Al Nassr’s Sultan Ghannam, even after departing from the club.

Sultan Ghannam signed a new contract with Al Alami until 2028. Ghislain Konan expressed pride for Saudi’s homegrown talent and extended best wishes to his ex-teammate for his upcoming stint. The former Reims defender wittily regarded, “You are and you will always remain my knight. I hope you will give me some money or you buy me a nice watch, Love you bro”.

The allocation of foreign players has been a subject of debate among the clubs and the officials in various championships. On this note, PIF-owned clubs in Saudi Arabia reached a significant milestone in elevating the foreign players’ count in the Saudi Pro League.

Good news for Al Alami and other Saudi clubs

Previously, the Saudi Pro League was permitted to register a maximum of eight foreign players on the team. The Saudi clubs spent nearly $1 billion for mostly European stars this transfer season. Consequently, PIF-owned clubs like Al Nasr, Al Hilal, Al Ahli, and Al Ittihad advocated for the league to add an additional spot for international players.

Furthermore, the teams and the Saudi Football Federation unanimously supported the proposal to raise the number of foreign players to 9. A Saudi journalist claimed that Saudi clubs could see a rise in their overseas players if the league grants approval. This decision could draw more high-quality talent into the league, enabling teams to craft fully packed squads.
