The past few months have been filled with controversies for Shakira and Gerard Pique. Both have been involved in a public drama ever since the couple announced their separation last June. However, not everything was always that way. There was a time when Shakira and Pique were a loving couple who had the fans in awe.

In 2011, two of the world’s biggest celebrities, Shakira and Gerard Pique, started a relationship. Over the next 11 years, the couple was a favorite of millions, even having two children together. However, their relationship did cause some turbulence for Pique at the start.

Gerad Pique almost left FC Barcelona

Gerard Pique in 2011 was part of Barcelona under one of the most celebrated coaches in soccer history, Pep Guardiola. 10 years later in an interview in 2021, Pique revealed that tensions between him and Pep Guardiola had increased due to the relationship with Shakira.

He believed that tensions were already high due to the rivalry between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho, then coach of Real Madrid.“We reached an important point of tension with him, and with the dressing room in general,” Pique recalled. “The rivalry with Jose Mourinho was very exhausting. Pep wanted absolute control of everything that happened”.

He then added, “I started dating Shakira and the relationship with him changed; now the relationship is perfect. I had a lot of pressure. I felt that in training I had to do everything perfect”. Pique further revealed that things got unbearable for him. “If there was a moment in which I thought about leaving Barca, it was that season,” said Pique.

Luckily, the situation eased and Pique, despite the change in relationship status, stayed in Barcelona. He, then, went on to become the most capped defender of Barcelona (616 in total) and one of the most decorated players in its history. Gerard Pique and Shakira have since then come a long way. Unfortunately, things have turned out messy for both.

Shakira and Pique’s relationship in recent times has become strained. The highly-publicized couple announced their split in June 2022 after the former was accused of infidelity. This event later ignited a series of legal battles over the custody of their children.

Matters were further intensified when Shakira released a diss track targeting her ex-partner. Pique also made several subtle remarks about Shakira amid all of this. It is abundantly clear that Shakira and Pique have experienced tension in the aftermath of their breakup.
