The 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup victory should have been a celebratory moment for Spain. However, when the dust settled, Luis Rubiales made all the headlines for the controversies that transpired. The former RFEF president was responsible for one of the most unfortunate moments in women’s soccer as he unsolicitedly kissed Spanish star Jenni Hermoso during the presentation ceremony. In one episode from the USWNT’s Netflix docuseries ‘Under Pressure’, skipper Lindsey Horan slammed Rubiales for spoiling the moment for the Spanish national team.

In fact, Rubiales was forced to step down from his position following intervention from the Spanish government. The former RFEF president has faced massive backlash following his actions, with both FIFA and UEFA imposing distinct bans on the former Valencia player.

USWNT star Lindsey Horan discussed the infamous World Cup controversy in the Netflix docuseries ‘Under Pressure’. The USWNT skipper was not pleased with Rubiales’ actions as she felt it took away Spain’s precious moment. Horan drew a comparison between the event and the USWNT’s victory in 2019, highlighting the significance of both wins for the team.

“What should be talked about is them. How they played and won the World Cup, and how beautiful it was. I remember the celebrations we had after winning the World Cup. Everything was so perfect. Everything was so great,” Horan remarked.

Lindsey Horan then added, “For them, this celebration should have never been taken away. And it’s been taken away. I get so pissed off about that, but then you see winning the World Cup can put you on this stage and level where you can stand up for something.”

The International soccer body FIFA has already set up a disciplinary committee to investigate Rubiales for his actions. The Spanish government also plans to prevent Rubiales from returning to RFEF permanently. Things have gone south for the actions he displayed during the presentation ceremony!
