Excellence is a word synonymous with Pep Guardiola. In his storied managerial career, the Spanish tactician has accumulated a staggering 38 major honors! He could take that tally to 40 if Manchester City wins the FA Cup and Premier League. As such, his peers continue to marvel at his genius with Jurgen Klopp describing Guardiola as the best manager of his lifetime. Yet, the Spaniard in his own words has tasted the agony of failure. In fact, the Manchester City boss revealed that he failed at Bayern Munich despite winning 3 Bundesligas on the trot!

In his latest presser, Pep Guardiola shared his thoughts on his Bayern Munich spell. The manager said that the demand on him was to win the Champions League every year. Consequently, Guardiola added, “So I failed in Bayern Munich but didn’t win the Champions League.” The German giants are the only club where he couldn’t win the UCL. Yet, it is worth noting that Bayern Munich reached the UCL Semi-finals in the 3 seasons under his tenure. Interestingly, Manchester City didn’t reach the semi-finals once in his first 3 seasons!

The Spaniard added that he would have failed in Manchester City if not for goalkeeper Ederson. Pep Guardiola revealed, “I would have failed here if Ederson did not save the last minute against Lukaku so I have to accept it.” In last year’s UCL final, Inter Milan striker Romelu Laku had an easy opportunity to score a header and level things up. However, Ederson prevented a potential penalty shootout with a brilliant save. Otherwise, Manchester City would not have had a treble in their name. Speaking of treble, Guardiola won’t be winning a treble this season but has the opportunity to win something as special.

Right now, Arsenal are first in the points table and leads Manchester City by 1 point. However, they have had the advantage of playing an extra game. But, Arteta & Co have an advantage as far as goal difference is concerned (57 vs 50). Hence, any slip-up by Pep Guardiola’s side could see their title quest come to a brutal end.
