Former Real Madrid star Eden Hazard had one of the roughest times in his career during his spell at the Spanish capital. While Hazard joined Los Blancos with a lot of fanfare, it did not take long for things to turn sour. The Belgian was released by the Merengues last year, which saw the player pull the curtain on his playing career. In an interview, the ex-Madrid star opened up on his time at the club, reasoning why his stint turned into a massive failure.

Real Madrid brought out their chequebook back in 2019, to splurge a massive $107 million to sign Hazard from Chelsea. However, the move turned out to be a disaster for both parties as the player made just 76 appearances during his four years with the club.

Hazard talked about his experience with Los Blancos in an interview with French media outlet L’Equipe. The Belgian did not shy away from his experience as he took shots at his time at the club without mincing his words. “Was Real Madrid suitable for me? Now it’s easy to say. Since I was a child, I was a follower of Zidane. The Bernabeu, the white T-shirt… has a charm that others don’t have. Madrid is special.”

He then added, “Beyond that, I don’t think I fit in. It’s not like me. It’s a bit of a bragging club, and I’m not like that. I didn’t even like the way we played if you compare it to that of other clubs. But it was my dream. I couldn’t finish my career without coming here.”

It’s surprising to see Hazard openly speak up against his former club. However, the two parties did not part ways on amicable terms, as the winger was disappointed by the club and the manager’s decision to run down his contract.
