He also boldly claimed that the US ‘dominated’ the game, raising several eyebrows again.
Alex Morgan and her team are still firm favorites to achieve their three-peat. But a performance like today isn’t helping anyone’s confidence.

During his post-match interview, the USWNT boss made quite a few eye-opening claims. After a disappointing first half, the US did manage to up the tempo in the second half. But they were still far from their best. Vlatko Andonovksi revealed that it was the ‘mentality’ and ‘belief’ that got them through. He indirectly assured the fanbase that they would witness more second-half-esque performances.
Throughout the game, Andonovski made just one substitution which was at halftime. Several fans couldn’t understand the reason behind his decision to stick with the same game plan. In response to the above, he said, ” We had a good rhythm. We dominated the game, controlled the game. I can’t remember if they had more than one shot in the whole half or in the whole game”.
"The mentality is what changed the most."

“I don’t remember more than three shots. That’s a great team that we just faced and to keep that team on three shots in 100 hundred minutes, that’s a good performance. So very happy with the team, very happy with the mentality”. Without a doubt, the USWNT’s performance got better towards the end but his ‘dominating’ claim didn’t settle quite right with the fanbase.
The fans were quick to express their disappointment after the game. Some of them felt that a draw was much better than a loss which could have been highly possible. Interestingly, their inaugural game also had a similar problem despite the 3-0 win. Let’s dive deeper.

The USWNT kicked off their World Cup campaign against Vietnam. They ended up winning the game 3-0 but the fans weren’t fully convinced. The fans were concerned that the US was struggling to string a few passes together. They seemingly also lost possession quite a bit. In the end, being the superior team on the pitch in terms of quality proved to be the advantage.
Getting past the Netherlands was never going to be the easiest. Undoubtedly, both teams put on a tough fight and ended up sharing the points equally. In a few days, the USWNT will face Portugal which most likely will turn out to be a ‘do or die’ game for them. While their three-peat dream is still on, Andonovski and his team need to improve their performances tactically.
