For soccer fans in the US, Gregg Berhalter has now become quite a controversial name. Last night, only a few held back on him at the presentation of Lionel Messi. A video of the USMNT head coach played on the big screen and fans were quick to boo the coach. The US Soccer board decided to reappoint the 49-year-old as the head coach of the USMNT despite the Berhalter – Reyna controversy.
While Messi is probably a blessing for US Soccer, fans no longer trust Gregg Berhalter. Simply because of the unusual goof-up in December during the FIFA World Cup.

Undoubtedly, Lionel Messi’s move to the MLS will help the sport grow exponentially in America. Prior to the upcoming 2026 World Cup, the Argentine will help garner more eyeballs from within the country. He has signed a two-and-a-half season deal with David Beckham’s Inter Miami. The deal is worth $55 million per season. The Argentine soccer legend’s unveiling as an Inter Miami player was just hours ago.
The mood in and around the stadium was quite pleasant and joyful. But suddenly, fans started booing at the big screen after Berhalter appeared on it. The USMNT head coach’s welcome message was being showcased to the world. But fans weren’t best pleased with it. Here’s how some of them reacted.

The mood was surely not a good one at that particular time. The happiness around Messi’s welcome ceremony immediately turned into anger after Berhalter’s snippet began to play. Such is the reality after US Soccer decided to reappoint him as head coach after the ‘embarrassing’ controversy with Gio Reyna’s family.
