It’s been a rollercoaster of a couple of months for USWNT icon Megan Rapinoe. The 38-year-old American women’s soccer legend played what would be her last World Cup at the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia. Tragically, it was her missed penalty that led to the USWNT getting knocked out of the tournament by Sweden. The missed penalty led to considerable backlash all over the US with even former US President Donald Trump jumping on the bandwagon to attack Rapinoe on social media. However, for 2-time Oscar-winner Jane Fonda, Rapinoe is someone who she “admires profoundly”.

The Hollywood star of yesteryear attended an NWSL game between Angel City FC and Seattle OL Reign. And she couldn’t help but express her excitement after watching the match.

Taking to Instagram to reflect on attending her first women’s soccer game, Jane Fonda wrote a heartfelt post while tagging Megan Rapinoe and stating how much she enjoyed watching the game.

In her post on her Instagram account, Fonda wrote, “I recently attended the first soccer game of my life and the first women’s sports game. The Angel City team of Los Angeles against Seattle’s OL Reign. It was so exciting; I want to make it a regular thing. Thrilled that I got to see Megan Rapinoe, with the OL Reign, play.”

She added, “This happened to be her last game in LA, and her last season, she’s retiring, which makes me very sad as I admire her profoundly on many levels. As much as I admire Megan, I had to root for my home team, Angel City, which happens to be owned by a number of my friends including Natalie Portman, Cindy Holland and Eva Longoria. AND WE WON!”

As Jane Fonda mentions, the game ended 2-1 with Angel City FC winning the match. However, it was perhaps a slight bit of vindication for Rapinoe, who scored a penalty for her club OL Reign in the 74th minute. Nevertheless, the Seattle outfit ended up on the losing side.
