After a historic League Two campaign, the priority at Wrexham has shifted to transfers. Coach Phil Parkinson has made no secret of his desire to improve the squad. Furthermore, as many as 8 players have been released by the club. With incomings a necessity, all sorts of rumors have been flying about, including links to Jamie Vardy! But, a concrete possibility has opened up for the Red Dragons. A longstanding target of theirs has just become a free agent. Therefore, will Ryan Reynolds’s side renew their interest? Let’s find out.

Jamie Lindsay, the Rotherham midfielder, is the man in focus. The Scottish star is officially a free agent after a 5-year spell at the Championship club. An injury meant that he was limited to just 400 minutes since February. It remains to be seen whether his fitness issues put off Wrexham, as they wanted to make him the club record transfer at one point.

In January 2024, there were reports that Wrexham wanted to bring in Jamie Lindsay and the fee would eclipse the $440k paid for Ollie Palmer. Unfortunately, the move hit a dead end, as the clubs were not in agreement regarding a fee. With Lindsay having just a few months left on his contract, the Red Dragons preferred to acquire him for free. As a result, they shifted their focus to Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott and acquired the duo in January.

With Lindsay having great success in the Championship, it remains to be seen if a move to Wrexham appeals to him. After all, League One is a step down in quality and there is no guarantee that the Red Dragons will secure promotion this season. But fret not, as Ryan Reynolds’ side has lined up alternatives already.

Wrexham involved in a 4-way tussle for League One midfielder

League One is yet to start but the Red Dragons are already involved in an off-field battle. As per reports, the Welsh side is facing stiff competition for the signing of Irish midfielder Will Ferell. The other sides interested in the Irishman are Blackpool, Charlton Athletic, and Northampton Town. Valued at $353,000 the Irishman is one of the most in-demand players in the transfer market. His contract with Cheltenham Town expires in June and the star will cost o pennies to Wrexham should they sign him.

Unlike Jamie Lindsay, Ferell hasn’t had any injury issues this campaign. In the just-concluded campaign, the Irishman played 46 matches with 2 goals and 4 assists to show for it. Availability is often the best ability and hence Wrexham might be temped by Will Ferel. Unfortunately, this could be the hardest transfer they might have to make.
