Could Jurgen Klopp be the game-changer USMNT needs to finally make a mark on the world stage?

USMNT is on the cusp of proving its mettle in soccer. Although they are known to embrace various other sports, the USA has witnessed a lot of rise in its enthusiasm for the beautiful game. However, the time has arrived for them to make more impact in world soccer as they prepare to host the 2026 World Cup. But the North American team received a double jolt recently with their coach Gregg Berhalter being sacked. But more disappointingly, Jurgen Klopp who is one of the fans’ and experts’ favorites has rejected to take over the role according to recent reports. However, it isn’t the end of the road for USMNT partisans who still can hope for the German to land up in the USA. Let’s examine how.

Digging deeper into how Jurgen Klopp can manage the USMNT for the 2026 World Cup

The 2026 World Cup is possibly the only reason the Stars and Stripes are desperate to sign a manager like Jurgen Klopp. In that case, the US Soccer can acquire him but they would need to make a little sacrifice. It’s a well-known fact that the German manager was taken aback by burnout from his previous spell, hence reports suggest that he rejected the role to keep away from the sport for a year. Since the World Cup is almost two years away, the team can afford to sign him after his sabbatical, letting go of one year. In the meantime, it makes sense for CONCACAF giants to hire an interim coach due to more than one reason.

Firstly, USMNT has already qualified for the 2026 event as host and will not play any major matches. Only a few friendlies are lined up for Christian Pulisic’s team and an interim coach can suffice until Klopp arrives. With his experience, the team will trust Klopp to have a major influence in one year.

Moreover, US Soccer has already done it with USWNT recently. Their current coach Emma Hayes was brought with a similar approach after the team’s relatively below-par performance in the 2023 World Cup. The Englishwoman was given 6 months to complete her spell with Chelsea before arriving in the US. In addition, she is also given just a couple of months to prepare for the Olympics, giving USMNT some insight into such a method.

Having done great exploits with the Liverpool team in the last nine years, the USMNT can consider themselves fortunate to have Klopp available. In addition, Klopp also showed appreciation for the USA citing some of his experiences from his Liverpool tours to England. Reports also suggested that the manager would have preferred coaching the USA or Germany in case of national teams.

Overall it appears that the USA’s ambition of hiring Klopp may be a bit distant. But efforts can be taken to strike a pre-contract agreement which may give fans some hope. But the possibility of Klopp arriving in the USA remains a mystery.
