After their visit to Brighton and Hove, Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City sent a chilling warning to Arsenal, which is eyeing its first Premier League title in 21 years. Thanks to strikes from Kevin De Bruyne and Julian Alvarez, and an impressive brace from Phil Foden, City ruthlessly ousted Brighton 4-0 last night. With the win, the Cityzens narrowed the top-seeded Arsenal’s lead to one point and extended their gap with Liverpool by two points. Moreover, in a major boost for the title race, Guardiola’s men have one more game in hand than both Arsenal and Liverpool.

However, the Man City boss rightly believes the title race is far from over. “Title race is not only between us and Arsenal. What happened to Liverpool, two defeats in a row, it can happen to Arsenal, it can happen to us,” Pep Guardiola told Sky Sports after the Brighton tie. As the Spaniard pointed out, the English title race will go down to the last day, and here are its possibilities.

Liverpool’s chances to win the title

Jurgen Klopp‘s chances to win the English title in his farewell season are rather bleak. Liverpool recently lost the Merseyside derby against Everton after a loss against Crystal Palace. They are currently the third seed, three points behind Arsenal and two behind Man City. Besides, the Reds’ goal difference has come down to +41 to City’s +48 and Arsenal’s +56.

Going ahead, Klopp and Co. face West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Though West Ham and the Wolves look weak for the Reds on the books, Aston Villa and Tottenham can easily upset them at this point. A win in all four remaining games is the only way Liverpool can survive.

Arsenal’s chances to win the title

If the title race was to come down to goal difference at the end, Arsenal is the most likely candidate to have an advantage. There’s already an eight-point goal difference gap between Mikel Arteta’s side and City. However, the Gunners play four games; one less than the Sky Blues. Arteta cannot afford to lose any of those ties at this point.

Chances are high for Arsenal to easily cruise past Bournemouth and Everton. But heavyweight clashes against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United await Arteta’s men. Tottenham had restricted Arsenal to a draw in their last league tie. Meanwhile, United has gathered a winning momentum lately with eyes on the FA Cup trophy. Even if Arsenal were to win all four games, they would want Man City to snap certain games, to seize the English crown.

Manchester City’s chances to win the title

If Guardiola’s men win all five of their remaining games, they will rewrite Premier League history. They will be the first-ever PL team to win four titles in a row. So, as the Spanish boss pointed out, the Cityzens will be cautious to avoid any slip-ups. City faces Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Fulham, Tottenham, and West Ham next.

On the books, only Tottenham can pose a real threat to Guardiola and Co. The others have a thin chance of challenging the defending champions. But this is soccer and anything can happen. Anyhow, the Sky Blues must make sure their goal tally is going upwards. If they slip up in a game, a goal-difference advantage can settle the title race for Manchester.
