Megan Rapinoe, in her autobiography, shares an interesting story about how she and her sister Rachel treated their father during the Presidential elections in 2016. And the reason for this treatment happens to be the former POTUS Donald Trump.

The feud between the Rapinoes goes back to 2016; the same year Trump got elected as the 45th President of the United States. It was before the altercations happened between the World Cup winner and Donald Trump.
Megan Rapinoe did not talk to her dad for a political reason
It’s The USWNT soccer star does not think so highly of the former President and business mogul Donald Trump. She has made those views clear publicly on many occasions. During the 2016 presidential campaign, she was shocked to know that her father voted for Mr. Trump. She wrote about the whole incident in her autobiography, One Life.
Rapinoe wrote, “Ever since the November election, when Rach and I discovered our dad had voted for Trump, we had been giving him the silent treatment. (We suspended it to send him happy birthday texts on November 14, but neither of us signed off with kisses or emojis.) It was rough, the longest we’d ever gone—six weeks—without speaking to him, and we’d done it from a place of deep hurt.”
“Heading home for the holidays, we knew it was going to be tense. On Christmas Eve, over my mom’s famous annual spaghetti buffet, we let him have it. “How could you?!” we yelled. “How could you vote for that heathen when you have gay daughters?!”

Megan Rapinoe first came to light in 2016 for taking a knee to US national anthem. The US Soccer Federation warned players from doing so after the incident. It was a nod to Colin Kaepernick’s move, who first took a knee during the national anthem against police brutality. Both the athletes received support and criticism and several other athletes joined the protest with time.
The 2019 feud between the player and Donald Trump
2019 was the FIFA Women’s World Cup year. USWNT was the favorite to win it. Before the World Cup, a video emerged that stirred controversy. Rapinoe was clear that she won’t go to the White House even if USWNT won the World Cup.
During the World Cup, Trump, in his tweet, warned her not to disrespect the American flag. He asked Rapinoe to win first before talking. He also said he’d invite them to the White House, whether the team loses or wins. Further, team USWNT bagged another WC trophy, adding to their remarkable accolades.

However, three years later, Rapinoe visited the White House, for another reason. They named her for the US highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this year. President Joe Biden presented the award to her.
