The former Barcelona star is living his best life after enduring an emphatic World Cup in Qatar. The 35-year-old finally lifted the trophy that had eluded him for a very long time.
La Pulga kicked off the new year with yet another accolade, thus clinching the award from his teammate Kylian Mbappe. Furthermore, his national allies, Emiliano Martinez and Lionel Scaloni, also won the best goalkeeper and best coach awards, respectively. The FC Barcelona Femení’s Spanish midfielder Alexia Putellas won the Best award in the women’s category. To add to his happiness, Brazilian legend Ronaldo heaped praise on the World Cup winner.
Ronaldo’s heartwarming response to Lionel Messi
While some may disagree with Messi winning the award, many foresaw Benzema taking the trophy home. The Frenchman was being touted as the clear winner thanks to his excellent performance in last year’s Champions League. Nevertheless, it was Messi who took the award home.
However, a noteworthy player gave all his praise to the 35-year-old at the award ceremony, and it was none other than a rival of Messi’s international side. In a viral clip, we saw former Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo Nazario having a tête-à-tête with Messi and his wife, Antonela.
Ronaldo: “Congratulations for the World Cup, how beautiful, eh? You deserve it. I’m very happy for you….”
Messi: “It was crazy…” pic.twitter.com/Ge50w1VgA1

“Congratulations for the World Cup, how beautiful, eh? You deserve it. I’m very happy for you….” said the former Brazillian striker, to which Messi replied, “It was crazy…” It was indeed a heartwarming gesture by the Brazilian, whose words touched the PSG playmaker.
After collecting the trophy, Messi had a few humble words to say, “It’s amazing. It’s been a tremendous year, and it’s an honor for me to be here and win this award. Without my teammates, I wouldn’t be here. I achieved the dream I had been hoping for for so long. Very few people can achieve that, and I have been lucky to do so.”
Lionel Messi has picked up from where he left off at the conclusion of the World Cup.
