Inter Miami will also not be happy with the last-minute cancellation of one of the friendlies. This is because they are hoping for a good pre-season ahead of an important next season. Lionel Messi also hopes to use the friendly to keep his fitness ahead of the World Cup qualifying games. However, the Major League Soccer has suffered the biggest setback
MLS was hoping to use these friendlies to increase their reach in the Asian continent
MLS managed to attract a large number of fans from different countries for the Inter Miami games. This is because of the signing of Lionel Messi. Messi’s signing has also helped the league attract sponsorships and viewerships from various countries. Hence, MLS and Inter Miami were hoping to use the presence of Messi in China to promote their league. The cancellation of one friendly is now set to derail their major plans.
MLS and Inter Miami will have limited time to promote their league in the Asian continent. This is also a setback for the fans in China as the two games would have given them the best possible opportunity to see their favorite player. Inter Miami are now going to play in a stadium of only 41,500 compared to over 50,000 earlier in the only friendly. This will likely result in a lot of fans not being able to get the tickets.
