Everyone wants a piece of Messi’s jersey, but Orlando City soccer fans vandalized his mural before their Leagues Cup match. In one street in Miami, rival fans spread violet paint on the mural, destroying it. Yet, some players are ecstatic to see him play. 

Club rivalries are frequent with fans of each club. But for the players, it marks a historic moment when they play against Messi. Many players keep him as an inspiration and started their careers watching him play. Therefore, one fan revealed his wish ahead of the game.

Martín Ojeda of Orlando City remains excited to watch Messi play and hopes to get his jersey. In a recent interview with Elonce, he stated, “For my part, I am very happy that Messi is coming. Although it was just unfortunate that he came to play for our classic, the fact that he is here with us in this league is great news because he is going to help us all grow a lot.” In fact, the demand for Messi’s jerseys is through the roof. The stores are working round the clock to fulfill the demands of the customers owning to Adidas’ previous issues with keeping up with the demand. Thus, Ojeda wants one of his own. 

Ojeda continued, “This is a football that was already growing and the arrival of the best footballer in the world will help MLS to be seen in all parts of the world. Hopefully, when we face each other in the classic, we can change shirts. Being on the same court as him would be a dream come true.”

Thus, everyone wants a piece of Messi. Fans crowd him when he walks on the shores of Miami, in shopping malls, and through his neighborhood. The Messi effect is in full flow as Inter Miami hopes to qualify for the next round of the Leagues Cup.

The Leagues Cup is a tournament founded in 2019 between the MLS and Liga MX. They compete against each other in a unique tournament as Inter Miami will hope to defeat Orlando City. They lie in 15th place in the Eastern Conference of the MLS, and winning the Leagues Cup would be crucial to the team. The fans vandalizing the mural is a part of the anticipation of the match. Hopefully, the team can come up with the goods and keep Messi’s hopes of another trophy alive.
