The 2022 soccer calendar is almost over, with teams around the world getting crowned league champions. All teams across England have been promoted and relegated in their respective leagues, with Wrexham getting into League Two. Now, with the promotion in hand, the clubs are already looking to revamp their sides before the new season kicks off.

Speaking of Ryan Reynolds’ side, the club is also looking to sign some players to bolster his ranks. Several players have been linked with the Red Dragons, with a few being eyed by the Welsh side. With massive competition lying ahead in League Two, Wrexham is keen to put the best face of the team out there. Hence, in an attempt to add fuel to the attack, Reynolds’ side was looking to sign League Two star, Andy Cook. The Bradford City star has won this year’s League Two golden boot, with the Dragons interested in his services.

However, it seems that Cook has already responded to the rumors, as he recently signed a new three-year contract with the Bantams. As said by the club’s official website, Cook looks to “finish the business” and lead his side to promotion. Bradford finished sixth in the league but got out of the play-offs against Carlisle in the semi-finals.

The 31-year-old striker was able to secure 28 goals during the last season, making him the leading scorer in the fourth division. He also found the back of the net 31 times across all competitions. Cook, who initially arrived on loan from Mansfield in January 2021, has amassed an impressive record of 51 goals in 115 appearances for Bradford.

Cook also said he “did have options elsewhere,” but was keen to stay by his side. Now, he’ll be playing with Bradford for three more seasons. It seems Cook also followed the advice of his club’s former player, who advised him to reject Wrexham.

Urged to snub Wrexham

Former Bradford City star James Hanson had urged Cook to reject all offers, including Wrexham’s, and stick with the Bantams. The former League Two star had already warned him about Phil Parkinson’s interest. As stated by the Telegraph & Argus, he said, “I don’t know why but I could see him going to Wrexham. Knowing Phil and the type of player he likes, it would be a statement signing for them to get League Two’s top goal-scorer along with Paul Mullin.”

While praising his 31-goal season, Hanson also warned him about interest from upper-division teams. “I’d imagine Andy will have interest and maybe from League One as well.” He said to be hopeful that Bradford can tie Cook up with a new deal. “It’s easy for me to say but if I was him, I’d definitely be staying at Bradford if the deal’s right.” Hanson was thus urging the Bantams star to make the right choice. Either way, Cook took Hanson’s advice, as now he’ll be competing against Wrexham next season.
