The world is enjoying the hype of the Oscars 2023. La Liga leaders, FC Barcelona, seem to be caught up in that hype too. The La Liga behemoths are facing hardship financially while simultaneously getting investigated for financial wrongdoing. Despite the difficulties off the pitch, the social media team of the club took to Instagram to post posters of some renowned movies with a Barcelona touch to them. Movies like La La Land, Lucy, and Matrix were altered to fit Barcelona players and their current head coach, Xavi Hernandez.

About a week ago, reports came out that the $5 billion worth club paid around 1.4 million USD to the vice president of the Spanish football referees’ committee. According to the latest updates, Spain’s public prosecutor will proceed with a case against the club. Although there is a statement from the club denying any wrongdoings, fans of the club will have a hard time waiting for definitive answers.

Barcelona flipping the posters

Barcelona, on their Instagram account, shared a few ‘posters’. They turned posters of movies like ‘When Harry Met Sally’ into ‘When Xavi Met Gavi’. All six posters of Oscar-nominated movies had a Barca element in it. Marc Andre ter Stegen was in The Matrix post while the movie Lucy had Lucy Bronze in it. Finally, La La Land looks to be a collaboration between the LA Lakers and Barcelona.

However, their clever posters didn’t stop a few fans from bringing out the recent scandal. One fan started it by saying, “hopefully you didn’t rig this one“. Another one continued and wrote, “Continue paying the refs“. There are other comments like, “Paying off refs“, “corrupt football club“, and “no shame to paying off refs“. Along with such comments, some fans also took some hilarious jabs at the absurdity of the post.

Comments like, “dawg we are so cringe“, “W post“, and “Haven’t seen a more cringe admin than this” sums up the thoughts of fans regarding this post and towards the club.

Barcelona’s statement concerning the allegations!

Barcelona is in some serious trouble. Their finances are crumbling and the Spanish Prosecutor has lodged a case against them. Although they said they will fight in their statement, it will still affect the overall image of the club. In their statement, they said, “FC Barcelona hired in the past the services of an external technical consultant, who supplied, in video format, technical reports referring to players in lower categories of the Spanish State for the Club’s technical secretariat.

Additionally, the relationship with the same external supplier was extended with technical reports related to professional refereeing in order to complement information required by the coaching staff of the first team and the subsidiary, a common practice in professional football clubs.
