“Hopefully MLS Can Be On Par” – Hollywood Comedian Will Ferrell Wants American Soccer to Compete With the European Leagues

Owning an MLS tram is a big deal, we know that it can cost around a billion to build a team from scratch. The MLS regulations required teams to build their stadiums and there is a franchise fee on top of that. Overall, it is an enormous investment, and people come to the soccer league with big aspirations and hope.

Personalities like David Beckham, Matthew McConaughey, James Harden, and believe it or not, the New York Yankees have invested in one or the other team in the league. One such name is Will Ferrell, as he is the partial owner of the current MLS champions, LAFC.

They didn’t reveal his relationship with the club until the LAFC Crest reveal back in 2016 and everyone thought he was joking. But, no, it was true, and he was in the ownership group of the team.

What inspired Will Ferrell to be into soccer?

While talking to ESPN, Will discussed how he got inspired to invest in an MLS team and how he became a fan of the sport. He also shared his future hopes for the club and how he finally has a team that he can call his.

Will Ferrell said, “I love watching it, generally speaking… I don’t really have a side per se until LAFC gets started and that will definitely be, obviously, my team. But I just enough watching the fact that it’s played all over the world. So many amazing players and so many top-flight leagues. And hopefully MLS can be on par, eventually, with the European leagues.“

Looking back at that 2016 interview, he would be pretty happy that his team lifted the 2022 MLS trophy. A project that found him out of nowhere has now made him the owner of a champion team.

How Will Ferrell get into LAFC

According to Ferrell himself, the opportunity found him by chance. His kid was the classmate of the other owner’s kid. One day, he got a mail from them about the opportunity of being in the ownership group. Being a soccer fan, Ferrell didn’t miss a heartbeat.
