St. James Park has an atmosphere of its own. It’s Newcastle United‘s valiant fortress that rattles any opposition away from home. However, you could have confused St James Park for Etihad Stadium as Kevin De Bruyne made his return to the Premier League this second Saturday. The Belgian star put on a masterclass that saw Manchester City snatch the win from Newcastle’s jaw. While fans were elated at KDB’s return, it seems like the Belgian was not in any rush to return from his injury.
Kevin De Bruyne’s return will be instrumental for Manchester City as the side looks to topple Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings. Pep Guardiola’s men are chasing history this season with the team hoping to become the first club to clinch the league titles four times in a row.

Manchester City was taken out with a two-punch knockout at the start of the season. Kevin De Bruyne, who returned to the team after a hamstring injury during the 2022/23 Champions League final, was once again taken off the field in the season opener after tearing his hamstring. The injury saw the Belgian sit on the sidelines for the last five months, waiting for his return to the field.
Talking to the National News, De Bruyne talked about missing his team, stating, “Honestly, I’ve not missed it. At the beginning, it was a blow, but then I knew I was going to be out for five months, so there’s no point thinking about it.”
He then continued, “I was working hard when I needed to work hard and I actually enjoyed my time, doing other stuff, doing things with my family, so maybe in a way it was good that I could reset a little bit and have a bit of a break after playing that long.”
Kevin De Bruyne put on a performance of a lifetime on his Premier League return. The Belgian ended the night with the away crowd screaming his name at the top of their lungs as he helped the Cityzens get a last-minute victory over Newcastle United.
Man City roars back as De Bruyne returns in style
No one could have hoped for a better return. Pep Guardiola’s trusted playmaker Kevin De Bruyne made his return to the Premier League in style against Newcastle United, helping the side get the upper hand over Eddie Howe’s men. Things were looking bleak for the Cityzens as the side trailed 2-1 before KDB’s introduction in the second half.
With the game slipping out of hands, Guardiola turned to the bench in hopes of a last-minute rescue. De Bruyne, however, produced something better as the Belgian leveled things up with an absolute screamer in the 74th minute.
