In the highly competitive soccer environment, the players keep fighting for the starting positions in the team. The players have to keep impressing the coaches with their professionalism and gameplay. When Ben Foster joined Wrexham AFC mid-season on a short-term deal, everybody thought he was a backup.

But things changed in his favor, and he started almost every game after joining for only two months. However, he stunned everyone by extending his contract for one more season. And fans saw him starting the game against Chelsea. Wrexham’s boss contemplated recently over starting Ben Foster and his professionalism.

Wrexham suffered a setback earlier this year when Rob Lainton suffered a season-ending injury. The Reds had only Mark Howard in their ranks. But his dismal form made the club look for options. Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds approached Ben Foster to come out of retirement and join on a short-term deal. He accepted the offer and made a crucial penalty save in the context of the title and promotion race.

It earned him a contract extension, and the former Manchester United goalie is with the team on the US tour. While on the Men In Blazers podcast, the hosts asked Phil Parkinson about how Ben Foster grabbed the starting position. “Ben’s a top-class goalkeeper. He’s comeback last season. He joined us and doesn’t play for a year. After two days, he played against York City at home, and he was excellent,” Parkinson said.

The Reds’ boss also had his views on Foster being a YouTuber after retiring and continuing his passion despite joining the club. “His standards are very high, and I have said before in the press that, of course, Ben has a lot of major interests away from the club, but he’s tried separating that from day-to-day training and when he walks into the Racecourse Ground on a morning, he’s first in the gym straight away,” Parkinson hailed Ben Foster.

Parkinson praised the Cycling Goalkeeper for his 100% commitment. He labeled the former England international as a ‘true professional,’ for everything he does in training and on the pitch. With a preseason under his belt, one can expect a massive season from the Notts County penalty hero. However, Parkinson will have a headache with the selection with Rob Lainton back to full fitness. Also, the boss is looking for a younger goalkeeper to plan for the future.
