Among Chelsea supporters, the message was to play Christian Pulisic more. At AC Milan, the US attacker is finally getting an extended run of games. However, he hasn’t had the best of outputs with 7 goals and 6 assists to show in 23 league matches. Hence, the general consensus among fans now is that he is overrated. Contrary to public chatter, a USMNT legend believes that the story is the other way around, with Pulisic delivering more than expected.
Ex-USMNT star Charlie Davies does not agree with the Christian Pulisic ‘overrated’ claims. Speaking on the CBS Sports Golazo, he gave his thoughts on the AC Milan star. He said, “How’s he overrated? Where’s he getting the plaudits to say oh he’s amongst the best? I mean, he’s done a really good job in his first season at Milan. I think he’s overproduced if anything. He’s exceeded expectations. So I don’t get how you can write an article about being someone who’s overhyped. ”

Davies is referring to an article by James Benge, where Christian Pulisic was listed among the 5 most overrated forwards in Europe. As Davies said, it seems hard on the USMNT star, considering these are respectable numbers in his first season in a new league. Interestingly, there hasn’t been much noise regarding the form of the other star attacker, Rafael Leao. In 22 league games, the Portuguese winger has scored just thrice!
Furthermore, as Davies pointed out, Pulisic has exceeded expectations, certainly in the UCL. His effort against Newcastle United resulted in AC Milan finishing 3rd in their group and avoiding dropping out of Europe altogether. In fact, that solidified him as one of Milan’s most important players, in the opinion of another former USMNT star.

Former USMNT striker Herculez Gomez has no doubts regarding Christian Pulisic’s importance to Rossoneri. He said in December, “His importance, his goals, his assists, the timely manner in which he scores them or in which he’s there at the moment, they’ve given this Milan team some big moments and some points.” Also, he approved Pulisic as among AC Milan’s best players. Something which journalist Nicki Bandini also agrees with.

Per Bandini, Pulisic along with Olivier Giroud remains the key for AC Milan. However, she feels that Giroud remains ahead, given that the Frenchman has scored more goals. This season, Giroud has managed 12 goals in 22 league games. Regardless, it seems both of them are in agreement that Pulisic has come up with the goods for AC Milan.
