Wrexham AFC  has secured historic back-back promotions in 2 years. The feeling is that the Red Dragons can do it once again and enter the Championship next season. As such, the interest in the Reynolds and McElhenney-owned club has increased manifold. Also, the release of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ docuseries has helped to establish a wholesome and passionate connection between the club and supporters. As per Rob McElhenney, his dad shares the same passion which prompted him to become an unofficial club ‘ambassador‘.

In an interview with S4C, Rob McElhenney spoke about one of the club’s biggest fans, his father Robert. The actor said, “I think my dad spends more time in Wrexham than I do.” The actor was highlighting how Robert attends matches that even he doesn’t go for. The interviewer said that Robert is like the club’s ambassador. McElhenney wholeheartedly agreed and added, “Well he’s retired. He has become the ambassador for Wales.” The interviewer replied, “I think he’s learning Welsh too” to which the actor replied affirmatively.

Moreover, McElhenney also had special words of praise for the Wrexham community. He added that he did not expect the kind of embrace and affection received from the people in the Welsh town. He explained that people are willing to open themselves up and tell their stories and the story of Wales. McElhenney is referring to how the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary chronicles the lives of people in the town. The focus on aspects beyond soccer has been a notable feature of superhit docuseries. But it also has led to its fair share of criticism.

Welcome to Wrexham labelled ‘boring’ by a former rival star!

Wrexham won’t be playing in League Two next season. Yet, Antoni Sarcevic, a former player of League Two club Stockport County isn’t impressed by their documentary. He confessed to not watching the latest season but the earlier ones didn’t keep him invested. He explained, “They weren’t really like on football, was it? It was like, a bit boring.” Sarcevic was expecting a soccer-centric documentary like ‘All or Nothing‘ and ‘Class of 92.’ He added, “I just thought it was solely going to be on football but it’s like everything around [Other than football].”

While Sarcevic isn’t a big fan of the documentary, plenty of others enjoyed the realistic approach to storytelling. In fact, the success of the recent season has led to the announcement of a 4th season. Notably, major changes are planned for the upcoming season. One of them is more locker room interactions like how Guardiola blasted his players in All or Nothing. Perhaps this might bring the balance that Sarcevic is keen on.
