It is reasonable to assume that Lionel Messi‘s decision to join the MLS club Inter Miami has sent the globe into a frenzy. Fans were left guessing about his future club after Lionel Messi bid his farewell to PSG. Last week though he made it clear that MLS is his new destination.

The global soccer icon joined the MLS side Inter Miami for $54 million a year. While many fans and soccer stars have lauded Messi’s move to the American club, there are some who have voiced their criticism. One of the most prominent critics is the retired Argentinian goalkeeper, Hugo Gatti, who is also one of Messi’s ardent haters.

Hugo Gatti, who rose to fame playing for the Argentinian club, Boca Juniors, has been an outspoken critic of Lionel Messi throughout his career. Despite hanging up his boots in 1988, Gatti continues to share his opinions on soccer, particularly on Lionel Messi.

According to TNT Sports, Gatti is not a big fan of Messi’s move to Miami. He did not mince words when asked about Messi’s move to Inter Miami in a recent interview. He stated, “I didn’t like Messi going to Miami, he’s going to flatten”. Gatti went further to add that “He is going to play field football” in America.

It’s clear the former goalkeeper believes Messi isn’t going to have a successful time in America and believes this was a bad move. Despite Hugo Gatti’s criticisms, there have been many who have lauded this move including, Lionel Messi’s ex-teammate, Sergio Aguero.

With every negative, there are positives too

The transfer saga surrounding Lionel Messi has been a tumultuous one. Despite receiving an offer of $1.6 billion from Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal and rumors of a return to his former club FC Barcelona, Messi ultimately chose to join Inter Miami. His former Argentine teammate, Sergio Aguero, supports this decision and also criticized Barcelona for their lack of effort in bringing him back.

In a recent interview, Aguero expressed that “Messi’s decision was the right one. Barcelona did not do enough to ensure his return.” Aguero believes that waiting until the last minute would have been a mistake, as they experienced in 2021. His move to MLS will be closely watched by soccer fans as he looks to make his mark in MLS.
