Appointing the right manager seems crucial for the team, and the one name linked to the job is Messi’s counterpart, Tata Martino. 

Therefore, in a recent interview, the soccer star explained Martino’s influence on his career. The player looks excited to work with his former manager, who looks to be the next coach for Inter Miami.

Messi credited Martino for being a tremendous influence in his career during a 2013 interview with Marca. He stated, “I like Tata Martino. He’s a great manager, and we saw what he did for the team in the ‘Clausura’, the way it finished and how he managed it. He took the team, made it play well, and everyone respects him.” Those are beautiful words from the World Cup winner, who looks excited to attain success with the MLS side. 

The duo linked together in Barcelona in 2013 as he replaced Tito Vilanova. Yet, the spell at Barca was far from sensational. They got knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League knockout round, as well as the league title on the last day. The manager failed to win any significant honors at the club apart from the Spanish Super Cup. Hence, he left the job after that season as Barca struggled under him.

Despite that, Martino is one of the best coaches in the world. He led the Argentinian national team to the Copa America final in 2015 but ultimately lost to Chile in the final. But this would not be his first stint in the MLS.

He had experience with the MLS side Atlanta United, who won the MLS Cup in his second season. After that, the league named him the coach of the year in the MLS. Therefore, he has vital experience in managing the MLS. It would be helpful for Lionel Messi to adjust to the league with his native managing the team.
