Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland had a trailblazing outing last season. The Norwegian striker put on a masterclass helping his side lift the historic treble for the first time in the club’s history. However, despite his achievements, the player might miss out on the Ballon d’Or. Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher while talking during CBS’ Champions League program touched on what Haaland might be feeling after coming so close to winning the award but missing out in the last moment.
While Haaland was on fire at the club level, Lionel Messi etched his name into record books as he lifted the World Cup with Argentina. The accolade has put La Pulga in prime contention to win the Ballon d’Or, which is a big blow for Haaland. The Ballon d’Or award ceremony will be hosted at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris this Sunday.

English icon Jamie Carragher was present alongside his regular partners Kate Abdo, Thierry Henry, and Micah Richards during CBS’ Champions League presentation for the week. During the show, when the former soccer stars were asked who was their pick to win the Ballon d’Or award, all three agreed on Lionel Messi.
However, while Carragher understood Messi was in pole contention to lift the title, he knew Erling Haaland would feel robbed. The Manchester City striker put on a historic display last season, shattering records one after the other. He was a key player in the team’s triumph as they lifted the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
Following the show, Carragher took to his official X account as she shared a snippet from the segment with the caption, “I won the CL in 2005 like Haaland this season, he will rightly feel how I did then, robbed!!!”

Jamie Carragher won the Champions League with Liverpool back in 2005. However, his comments were surely made in jest as the player finished 20th in the rankings with Brazilian icon Ronaldinho lifting the award.
While Haaland might miss out on his first Ballon d’Or, Argentine captain Lionel Messi is set for a record eighth title. Messi was crucial in La Albiceleste’s triumph last season and seems to be ready for a comeback after missing the title last season.

Lionel Messi set to lift his record 8th Ballon d’Or
La Pulga will make history this weekend as he will become the first active MLS player to lift the Ballon d’Or. The Inter Miami star was on top of his game last year as he helped Argentina lift the World Cup title. Messi finished the tournament with 7 goals and 3 assists as he was crowned the player of the tournament.
After lifting the only trophy that has eluded him throughout his career, La Pulga is ready to lift his record 8th Ballon d’Or title. This is a big comeback story from the ex-PSG star who failed to even make it into the top 50 rankings for the award last season. While the soccer icon received tough competition from Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Rodri, Messi is set to pipe the others despite their accolades.
