When Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo battled it out for the first and second, one soccer player established himself as the third-best player in the world. The Brazilian soccer star Neymar started attracting eyeballs during his time at Santos. Soon, Barcelona picked him and developed him into a sensational winger. But then he moved to PSG, and it all supposedly went downhill.

Former Liverpool player and pundit Don Hutchison explained the impact of that move that plummeted the soccer star’s stock. Once dubbed the best talent in the world, things seemed to have misfired. Moreover, he now plays for the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal and has left Europe. Hutchinson broke down the one move the player could regret at the end of his career.

After creating a sensational trio with Messi and Luis Suarez in Barcelona, the forward moved from the club in a bid to win the Ballon d’Or. He sought individual accolades after winning the treble with Barcelona. But since then, he failed to win the UEFA Champions League and the Ballon d’Or.

Don spoke about the impacts it had on the career trajectory of the superstar. In his analysis, he stated, “When Messi was at his greatest, like peak Messi, I think behind, or just behind Messi, in terms of natural talent, I thought Neymar was second best.”

To put his words in perspective, Neymar’s dribbling skills were out of this world. He brought his samba mastery to Europe and dazzled the soccer fraternity. Similarly, Ronaldo battled with Messi for the finest player supremacy.

The former midfielder gave his thoughts on Ronaldo, too. Hutchinson continued, “You know Ronaldo is Ronaldo. Machine! I thought Neymar in terms of natural talent, was only just behind Messi. I think that’s how good he is.”

Yet Hutchinson admitted when he reflected on Ney’s career in the end, there were some mistakes that he would love to change. The off-field distractions were of plenty for the player, too. At that time, he earned around $600 million and struck a lucrative deal.

Leaving PSG on a sour note?

Don ended, “Now, whether he could have made better choices. The biggest mistake will always be leaving Barcelona to PSG to try to win the Ballon d’Or when he was so successful. So good and fit and sharp. When he puts his head on the pillow, he will have a lot of regrets. But the talent, I still think he is in the conversation.”
