The world cup is going on in the fifth gear and believe it or not, quarter finals are almost over. The semi-finals are upon and we are all set for the business end of the tournament. Croatia defeated Brazil, a major contender for the trophy, which was a shocker. The match between Argentina and the Netherlands also lived up to the billing. Somehow, the players managed to get 16 yellow cards. The match felt like a football game, American football. There was a time when both benches were empty and everybody was on the field. To say that was a tense environment would be a vast understatement. Also, we had a record-breaking goal by Lionel Messi.

After the match, Messi out of all players was throwing words at the Dutch camp like daggers. It’s okay and understandable up to a certain point, but there are two teams playing at the biggest stage of the game and behaving like high schoolers. They exchanged words even after the match when the hero of the game, Emiliano Martinez, called out the coach of the Netherlands saying, “I think he needs to keep his mouth shut.”
Wout Weghorst called out Lionel Messi
After the match, Messi was irritated and called somebody stupid. While talking about Messi, Wout Weghorst said, “I wanted to give him a hand after the match. I’ve got a lot of respect for him as a football player. He smashed my hand away, and he didn’t want to speak with me. My Spanish is not so good, but [Messi’s] words were not respectful. It’s really disappointing.” It is safe to say that the environment was so heated that it got to Lionel Messi. The intensity of such games can even affect the calmest heads around.
