Manchester City made history last night becoming the only English team to win four consecutive Premier League titles. Pep Guardiola‘s side broke the record of local rivals Manchester United who won the league title three times in a row between 1998 and 2001. However, if there is one thing about Guardiola, it is that he wants to win at all costs! The Manchester City boss has taken the Sky Blues a long way, with the club no longer the ‘noisy neighbors’.
While winning four consecutive Premier League titles is massive in its own right, Pep Guardiola also wanted to get one over their local rivals. Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand touched down on his conversation with the Spaniard following the team’s title triumph. Ferdinand gave Guardiola his flowers while claiming the ex-Bayern Munich boss has been the difference maker for Man City.

Ferdinand stated, “I talk to Pep quite a lot on the phone and four in a row has been on his mind before the season started. He messages me taking the mick about if they win four then they are past Man Utd. There is a hunger and desire for him to overtake Manchester United. This guy is the main difference, he’s a genius amongst the elite people in that squad, and at the club. He is the difference maker.” I (Quoted by EuroSport)

Guardiola has been a rock for City over the years with the manager helping the club dominate England like child’s play. Since he arrived at the Etihad in 2016, Guardiola has won the Premier League title on a staggering 6 occasions, with only Sir Alex Ferguson winning more titles than the Catalan coach. While fans would love to see the manager break the elusive record, it seems like Pep could be ready to pull the curtain!
Pep Guardiola comments on his future at Manchester City
The Cityzens are on the top of the world after their elite achievement. However, manager Pep Guardiola might have given them some bad news following the team’s historic title triumph. The Spaniard’s contract is set to expire in 2025, with no renewal in place. While the fans would love to see their beloved manager remain at the club, it seems like Guardiola seems to be running out of steam.

The City boss stated, “The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying. We have talked with the club – my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But eight or nine years – we will see.”
It will be interesting to see if the Manchester City board can somehow convince the manager to renew with the club. Who do you think should replace Guardiola at Manchester City? Sound off in the comments below.
