Moments ago, Manchester City played against Brentford. The Sky Blues managed to clinch a 1-3 victory away from home, thanks to a brilliant hattrick from Phil Foden. While fans continue to celebrate the emphatic win as well as the youngsters’ performance, Pep Guardiola also jumped on the bandwagon, hailing Foden for having the ‘most influence on the team.’
Although the likes of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez fired blank, the England midfielder single-handedly helped his side clinch 3 points in style. Speaking in the post-match press conference, Pep Guardiola acknowledged that throughout his time in the game, he has only seen a few players like Foden, who often move in smaller pockets. “The feeling that he can shoot or make an assist—it’s difficult to find this combination to move in the pockets and after be like a knife and be so aggressive and score goals. I’ve seen few,” he said.
Despite City trailing in the first 20 minutes, Foden leveled the score before the break and he added a double in the latter half with Haaland and De Bruyne assisting him. “Phil is having his most influence on the team. He’s reading the game really well, how he can play simple and be more aggressive,” said Pep Guardiola. Backing Foden as an exceptional player, the Spaniard showered praise on the England star for playing over 250 games for the Cityzens!
