Neymar’s antics have often raised eyebrows. The Brazilian has been known to make a dive even at the slightest contact and would appeal for a foul. His diving has been branded a bad example for children by his former manager, Tite. Now another player has risen to a similar rank in Flamengo, a club playing in Brasileiro Serie A. The Flamengo FC striker’s recent gesture against his rival team’s coach is also being branded as disgraceful by Brazilian Critics.
The 27-year-old Flamengo forward is a mirror case of Neymar. The player has good skills, good flair, and is a great player overall. But, his recent gesture is seeing him being compared to Al Hilal’s Neymar.

During Flamengo’s recent fixture against Santos, Gabriel Barbosa sent a ‘little kiss’ to the rival team manager, Dobrival Jr., who was giving a post-match press conference after Santos’ win against Flamengo. This gesture, termed as ‘disrespectful’, has left the pundits fuming while the fan base was also divided. A Brazilian critic shares his thoughts on this gesture made by Gabriel.
In a UOL podcast, Mauro Cezar Pereira, a Brazilian journalist said, “Gabriel Barbosa wants to be Neymar at Flamengo. He is Neymar at Flamengo, he does what he wants, he is the symbol of the zone, the mess, the lack of authority from the directors, lack of respect for the fans.”
Cezar Pereira further added, “Gabriel today divides opinions among Flamengo fans. One part, who are fans who are more grateful for the goals he scored, continue to protect him and even minimize his actions like yesterday, in addition to the poor performances, and a part of the Flamengo fans are fed up.”
While Neymar has earned a lot of praise for his shining performances, his gestures and antics have been condemned by many. Recently, a Peruvian commentator and critic was angered by Neymar’s antics in Brazil’s 1-nil win over Peru in the World Cup qualifiers.
