Manchester United was caught lacking once again, with the side suffering a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United. The Red Devils, despite controlling the first half of the game, failed to find the opening goal with Alejandro Garnacho missing the best chance for his side. West Ham made full use of the opportunity as they scored twice in the second half to seal the win over United. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag talked about the contest during his post-match interview defending his players despite their mistakes.

Garnacho found himself one-on-one with Alphonse Areola 35 minutes into the first half. However, the Argentine failed to make the most of the opportunity as he shot the ball straight to the keeper who had no issues collecting the shot.

Things are starting to look bleak for Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman suffered another embarrassing defeat against David Moyes’ men at the London Stadium. United with the loss have now failed to find the back of the net in their last four games, which is turning out to be a big issue for the side.

Addressing his team’s performance, Ten Hag stated, “I think we had a decent seventy-two minutes. But we did not take our chances. We should have gotten the lead, but we didn’t and one moment of switching off and it made the difference.”

He then defended Garnacho’s missed chance, adding, “I think Garnacho is in good form. But it’s the truth, he was one-on-one with the keeper. He could have taken it, but he didn’t.”

Manchester United continues to suffer

Things are insufferable at Old Trafford at the moment, with the Red Devils registering some of the worst numbers in history. The recent defeat against West saw United pick up its 13th defeat before Christmas, the side’s poorest in the last 93 years. United have also for the first time since 1992 have got four games without scoring even a single goal.

With things not working out in his favor, Erik ten Hag is likely on thin ice within the club at the moment. If the manager fails to reverse the club’s fortunes in the coming games, he could be facing a sack before the end of the season.
