As speculation around the future of French sensation, Kylian Mbappe continues to heat up, soccer fans and coaches alike have been eagerly discussing his potential transfer. With no contract extension renewed with Paris Saint-Germain and the passing of the August 1st deadline, it seems increasingly likely that Mbappe will be on his way out.

There has been a lucrative Saudi offer of $1.1 billion for him. However, it appears that his most likely destination is Real Madrid, a club that has been long linked to the young star. Recently, Diego Simeone, the coach of Atletico Madrid, also expressed his interest in seeing Mbappe donning the colors of his fierce city rivals.

Diego Simeone is a legendary coach with a net worth of around $150 million who also went toe to toe against the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in his career. Simeone recently traveled to Seoul, South Korea, for his team’s pre-season friendly matches. His side also picked up a big 2-1 win against treble winners Manchester City.

Following the victory, the Argentine coach sat down for an interview with AS Diario. Here, he openly shared his thoughts on the prospect of Mbappe joining Real Madrid. “I would love to. It would be extraordinary for La Liga so that it remains one of the best,” he stated. “All players who come to Spain are a boost. Madrid has no economic problem to afford it.” Simeone also added, “Surely if not this year, the following year we will be competing against him”.

When questioned whether Mbappe’s arrival could pose a challenge for Atletico Madrid, Simeone remained unfazed. He confidently replied, We won a league against Messi, Iniesta, Alexis, Xavi, Busquets… Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema… It’s soccer, not names. Simeone is obviously referring to the 2013/14 season when Atletico Madrid clinched the La Liga title.

The team under the vision of Simeone defeated the formidable superteams of Real Madrid and Barcelona. To understand its weight, it should be remembered that this season was the start of the renowned trios, MSN (Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar) and BBC (Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo). It is clear Simeone is confident to embrace the challenge of competing against the world’s best players. But will Mbappe really join Real Madrid?
