The pressure one faces while playing in the English Premier League is huge. Even the best players and coaches go through rough times. After a brilliant season last year, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has gone through a learning session in the last month. But the way some media personnel handled things annoyed former England legend Gary Lineker.

The media has been known to create rifts among people sometimes. Pundits like Lineker and Gary Neville are known to give their honest views about matches. Even though criticism comes with its own set of pros and cons, journalists are now blamed by Lineker for not doing it the right way.

After City’s drop in the table, critics like Gary Neville and Micah Richards slammed them for their performances. But Pep Guardiola hit back at the jabs directly in a recent press conference. But, claiming to use such remarks for their own benefit, Gary Lineker blamed journalists for such reactions from the coaches. Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker was saying, “I’ve heard that so many times, where they will lift a tweel you’ve done or they’ll pick up something that you said somewhere and they’ll go to a manager because they haven’t got the b*lls to ask the question themselves.”

Media houses have been active in the last few weeks, asking questions of one of the best managers in the world. But even though Micah Richards’ criticism was mild, he and Linker blamed media figures for using their names to divulge information. Lineker went on to say, “They hide behind people in the public eye to try and goad the managers into responding.”

Micah also claimed that he was favoring the club and totally not opposing it. He had earlier said that Pep’s team had been lacking the X factor for the last few weeks. Guardiola, in return, replied that Richards also could not win four titles in a row, which he was expecting from Manchester City, and also made a similar dig at Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

The Champions League winner is also facing a major issue off the field. They are accused of breaching more than 100 Financial Fair Play rules from 2009 to 2018. Both Carragher and Gary Neville took a dig at Pep. The former stated, “I think I’d have probably won one if Liverpool were owned by a nation-state, and pushed the rules so far that the PL charged us 115 times!!”

After escaping the trial from UEFA, the Premier League has agreed to a date in 2024 for an agreement in front of an independent panel. The club escaped the UEFA trial because of the time limit it sets to start a trial. Pep, however, feels that the club is innocent until proven guilty.
