Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit from Man United was not a happy one. It started with Ronaldo being unhappy with the management and getting less play time. All of this erupted in the controversial interview with Piers Morgan. Following the growing tensions, Cristiano Ronaldo left the club in November in a mutual agreement.
Now the star has signed for the Saudi Arabia club Al Nassr in a two-and-a-half-year deal which will see the 37-year-old making a whopping $200 million a year. Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview and his exit didn’t sit right with many Manchester United fans and club legends. And one of them, Eric Cantona, slammed the Portuguese star in a recent interview.
Eric Cantona’s thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo
Eric Cantona in an interview with Manchester Evening News talked about Ronaldo. “He came back here and United wasn’t the United he left, and sometimes he doesn’t realise things changed. So maybe he was surprised so many things changed,” Cantona said.
Then he went on to compare himself with Ronaldo saying, “I think you have two kinds of players at the end of their career. Me, I decided to retire young, that’s another thing. And then the one who wants to play and play until the age of 40 years old.”
“You have two kind of players: the one who wants to play every game because they still think they’re 25 years old and the ones who realise they are not 25 years old and they are here to help the young players, they know they will not play every game, they know they will play some games.”
Eric Cantona slams Ronaldo
Eric Cantona, who is a club legend himself, didn’t hold back while criticizing Ronaldo. “But I think Ronaldo didn’t realise – and he still doesn’t realise – he’s not 25 years old,” the Frenchman said. “He’s just older and he should have realised that instead of being not happy to play some games, say, ‘okay, I am not 25 years old, I cannot play every game, but I will help the young players and accept that situation and that’s my situation’.

He further added, “I cannot run as fast as when I was 30 years old, I have to accept it. I have to accept I will die someday. It’s difficult to accept it but we have to. And the end of a career is like dying. It’s a little death. You have to start another thing. And before you die, you’re getting old and you have to accept you are getting old. You cannot do the things you do.”
