Messi fever has gripped America. After all, Lionel Messi is one the greatest ever to grace the game of soccer. But that being said, marketing strategies can be rather strange at times. And in this odd instance, MLS club New England Revolution’s sales reps, perhaps, didn’t put a lot of thought into their latest intended campaign.
Inter Miami’s rivals put together a contentious ticket marketing campaign, which led to the franchise receiving considerable flak.

According to this tweet by MLS Buzz, New England’s ticket office suggested that fans can buy season tickets on the cheap, to watch Inter Miami’s Messi score against them! It’s rather anti-climactic and humorous that New England’s salespersons drafted this particular campaign, especially considering Inter Miami is New England’s fellow Eastern Conference rival in the MLS.
The Twitter account stated that this particular marketing campaign was akin to when Vancouver’s social media team put together a compilation of Atlanta United scoring goals to sell tickets to their game. The handle also ended the tweet by suggesting New England’s sales team should “Have some shame”.

The marketing campaign further states that season memberships are “as low as $27 per game today” and that there’s a“100% chance” to see Messi score at the Gillette stadium.
Meanwhile, Messi continued his remarkable cup run by winning the Leagues Cup at Geodis Park against Nashville SC.

But Fafa Picault swiftly struck back in the 57th minute to tie the game. The match subsequently went to penalties after both clubs canceled each other out. However, Inter Miami came on top in a tightly contested shootout, winning 10-9 eventually.

Lionel Messi got to add another trophy to his trophy cabinet as he captained Inter Miami to the cup win. This was Messi’s 44th career title, as his trophy-winning streak in 2023 continues. Messi has scored 10 goals in seven games for Inter Miami since his move from PSG this summer. After winning the World Cup with Argentina in Qatar, Messi also celebrated lifting two cups with PSG before his transfer to the MLS. Namely, the Ligue 1 and Trophée des Champions titles.
