Wrexham AFC was left in a bit of a crisis after they saw their first-choice keeper, Rob Lainton, get injured. While the Welsh club was looking for alternatives, there was talk of signing a retired goalkeeper. Surprisingly, Ben Foster agreed to help Ryan Reynolds, who made the SOS call to the former England international.
Since then, Foster has already made a name for himself at the club. In just eight games, he made quite a mark by leading the club to promotion. What was said to be a journey of just six months eventually turned into a full-fledged contract that he recently received. In fact, he revealed the hilarious back details of his contract extension.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are known for their peculiar ideas. No one knows what goes inside their funny brains. Yet, in all seriousness, they manage to impress everyone with it. While the talk of Foster’s contract extension came up, the owners had a hilarious and unusual idea for making him stay at Wrexham.
This comes from the latest episode of Fozcast- Ben Foster podcast, the goalkeeper revealed their plans. While narrating he went out to grab Chinese food, he received a message from Reynolds and McElhenney on a group that was made by the owners. “Out of nowhere a Whatsapp group’s just made on my phone and it says, ‘Hands of Foz’,” he said.
The group only had Foster and the actor duo. He continued, “And straightway it was like, they just jumped on it ‘right Fozy, c’mon we’re doing this or not?’” Foster reveals he was already “smashed” by having dinner, but reassured both the owners about his stay. “I was like lads don’t worry about it, ring me tomorrow if you want yeah, and Rob was like, ‘I’ll ring you now.’”
The 40-year-old then said, “Yes mate, don’t even worry about it. We’re sorted, alright? And he was like ‘cool’.” Perhaps both Hollywood stars were desperate to see Foster sign the contract on WhatsApp itself. Either way, they weren’t the only ones, as the Wrexham manager also wanted Foster to stay.

Just like the owners, Phil Parkinson also wanted Foster to continue at the Racecourse Ground. As per the Leader he said, “I just wanted to let the euphoria of the season die down. I wanted Ben to stay, not on the back of that euphoria but after thinking long and hard that he wanted to commit to it because there is obviously a difference between 46 games and eight games.” The 55-year-old manager insisted that the goalkeeper is eager to continue playing for the team in the upcoming season.
He further mentioned that unlike when he joined the club unexpectedly without any training, this season he will have ample time for proper pre-season training. Parkinson also praised Foster’s commitment to taking care of himself even after retiring from professional football, referring to him as a “really important signing” for the team. Indeed, it’s good to see that we’ll get to see Foster between the sticks for yet another season.
